« CHARACTER INFORMATION »

    Character: Itachi Uchiha
    Canon: Naruto
    Canon point: Post-death
    OU or AU?: CRAU
Age: 21 at canon point, 22 as of CRAU history
    Species: Human

AU clarification: Itachi will be coming in after he's spent several months over at [community profile] aefenglom as a Witch, followed by a briefer time at [community profile] penancerp. While his personality didn't undergo too many changes due to his rigid nature in general, he was challenged on a number of levels. I've tried to categorize and summarize below, but I can flesh out as needed.

Interpersonal: This is the area Itachi experienced the most growth while in both games. He spent time with his younger brother, Sasuke, where their fraught relationship eventually became closer as they got to know one another. Much of this was personally healing for Itachi, and he was devastated when his brother vanished. He also became close with a few other individuals over time, exploring intimacy through friendship and (in a few cases) physical relationships. The overall arc has seen Itachi learning to be a normal human being.

Personal/self: The main point to note is the fact Itachi did not live as a villain while he was in both worlds. He shared the truth with his brother, as well as other people uninvolved in his own history. This was crucial because he spent the majority of his previous life closed off from everyone. To an extent he still believes that he deserves to be punished for his actions, and that he is not a good person, but for the first time he spoke of important and pivotal events to other people.

Appearance: Nothing significant. He does has a scar on his left thigh from when Sasuke stabbed him prior to his death, burn marks on his right arm (also from Sasuke), as well as a scarred bite mark on his left arm from fighting with a dragon in Aefenglom. He also has scars on his ribcage from torture in Penance. His wardrobe changed, but he still tends to wear a very neutral and utilitarian style. Additionally, he turned 22 on June 9th.

    Disposition:
  • intelligent + His wit and mental ability are hallmarks of his identity. Itachi is highly intelligent; he's said to be at Hokage level even as child. It is what drives much of his life, particularly the reason why Danzou and Fugaku targeted him in a tug-of-war between the Uchiha clan and Konoha, and it serves him in every situation going forward. It helps him excel in strategy during combat, allowing him to come out on top simply by reading/observing a situation, both due to his prodigious ability and his wealth of knowledge about shinobi arts.

  • adaptive + Closely related to his intelligence, Itachi has an uncanny ability to think on his feet and make quick decisions to adapt to unprecedented situations. He views the world as objectively as possible in order to alter his behavior and actions to better confront a problem. His mental acumen is continuously commented upon in the series, because not only is he smart, he's able to plan and make decisions incredibly fast even as situations on the battlefield change.

  • aloof - Itachi is often seen as a detached, withdrawn individual who separates himself from other people. This is a trait he's had since he was a child, influenced by his own genius which serves to divide him from the rest of the world. He is a man of few words and allows himself little emotional expression. He had very few friends growing up, and once exiled, continues to keep to himself even afterward. It is hard to tell what he is thinking or feeling in most conversations; he's had to craft a persona of indifference in order to handle the difficult world around him.

  • manipulative - Compounding on his isolation, brilliance, and logical mindset, Itachi has highly manipulative tendencies. He views most people as tools in a game of strategy - this includes both himself and those he loves deeply, like Sasuke. He will use others in order to achieve a means to an end, no matter the cost. Even if that end is idealistic or serves a greater purpose, it might sacrifice many along the way. His own life of deceit lends to his belief that altering someone else's perception (even against their will or without their knowledge) is one of the most powerful weapons. This is at the heart of many of his own abilities, too, especially within genjutsu.

  • avoidant +/- This trait can be construed both positively and negatively. On one hand, Itachi prefers non-conflict and peace; he avoids violent situations and often chooses outcomes that don't result in death. On the other hand, he avoids well-meaning people and his own problems like he's allergic.

  • Under pressure: Itachi's main motivations in every situation have always been Sasuke first, followed closely by Konoha. He is concerned with his younger brother most of all, willing to sacrifice himself and convince Sasuke of his own villainy to spare his brother from persecution (however poorly that may have worked out). In a game setting, Itachi would certainly adjust his behavior to monitor his brother and ensure he's unharmed. Additionally, he is always focused on outcomes that do not contribute to violence or disengage from conflict. While he himself isn't necessarily violence-averse, since he views himself as a living weapon, this outlook does influence how he sees other people. He would prefer not to hurt or kill. This affects the way he treats strangers - barring external influences, circumstances, or reflexives kicking in.

His CRAU history will have the biggest impact on his ability to be close with other people. Without that, he would be extremely resistant to the idea of Synchrony and generating Manna. It has taken him months to learn how to open up to someone else on a personal level. This will be the first time, however, that he finds himself in a situation where he has to engage that level of closeness for survival. It will require interpersonal development and trust that he's never experienced before.

Condition upon arrival: Itachi suffers from an inexplicable and unnamed illness. Its symptoms appear similar to a chronic respiratory illness, although this is never confirmed. In addition, overuse of his Mangekyou Sharingan contributes to symptoms of exhaustion, dizziness, weakness, blurred vision and eventual blindness. At this point, I have played Itachi as though his illness has been dormant. I've used his symptoms to help "nerf" some of his stronger abilities, like those associated with Mangekyou, and I think that adds a fun twist to things. He has not yet revealed to anyone his terminal situation; I'd like to play with that in game, but I don't intend for him to go blind or die (again) as a result. For now, it would be ideal if the illness can be reliant on Noctium technology/NPC involvement (like him needing to go to regular checkups, get medicine, etc) as well as just taking care of himself to keep it under control.

Abilities: There are a lot, so I've tried to summarize them briefly below for easier reading. The only game-breaking abilities I'd expect to be nerfed are Izanami/Izanagi, which mess with time and space. Itachi wouldn't use these regardless since they'd blind him.

Genjutsu - These are the illusive abilities Itachi is most well-known for using on his opponents to avoid physical combat. He can twist their perception of the world at whim, manipulating it into mental torture as it suits him. The Sharingan eyes inherent in the Uchiha bloodline further this ability, yet some of the techniques he uses are extremely physically taxing on his body. It is theorized this is what led to his illness and eventual death.

Dojutsu (eye techniques) - This includes the Sharingan born into the Uchiha blood, allowing its user to track chakra, memorize techniques, and facilitate genjutsu illusions. The evolved form of Mangekyou Sharingan takes this even further, although it includes a high price to awaken.

Taijutsu (physical and combat skills) - Itachi's proficiency in this area is 4.5/5. He is adept at body movements and techniques, even going against shinobi much older than he is.

Ninjutsu (martial arts, strategy and tactics) - Itachi's proficiency in this area is 5/5. He is talented with strategy on the spot and is known for his unusual implement of crows as a decoy rather than the traditional tagged log, allowing him to trick and distract his opponents.

Intelligence/Strength/Speed/Hand seals - Itachi's intelligence ranks at 5, his strength at 3.5, his speed at 5, and hand seals at 5. Overall, Itachi is a masterful shinobi with a frightening range of capability at such a young age. He has always been able to pick apart his opponents and analyze situations strategically due to high intelligence, his impressive speed is remarked upon often, and he has memorized countless hand seals far beyond the average. His strength is not perfect, but in a man who excels more at agility and illusions, it's still noteworthy.

Bukijutsu (weapon techniques) - He excels in this area and specializes with shuriken especially, though he also uses a sword in combat (this was his primary weapon while in the Anbu). He can throw weapons at high speed in many directions and strike his targets dead-on.

Nature transformation - Specifically, Itachi excels at the Fire Release technique. Uchiha possess an affinity for this element in particular. He can breathe fireballs and coat his weapons in fire. He also is shown to use Water Release, if less frequently.

Stamina - This ranks 2.5/5 and is considered Itachi's greatest weakness. He tires easily, and many of his abilities require a great deal of chakra. This is why in many cases Itachi will try to end battles as quickly as possible or otherwise conserve his strength.

Inventory: Pouch of shinobi tools (kunai, trip wire, tags, blank scroll, ointment); a letter from his brother; long-sleeved shirt, fishnet undershirt, pants, shoes; a necklace; his Akatsuki ring.

    Gembond: Amethyst.
Gem Location: Base of throat, in the center divot between collarbones.

Notes: Itachi had a crow familiar/pet in Aefenglom. I am hopeful to eventually earn her back as a bonus/reward in the future!
